Harm Reduction at FOR Augusta
Harm reduction is a spectrum of strategies such as: safer use, managed use, abstinence, and meeting people who use drugs “where they’re at.”
NARCAN DISTRIBUTION
Minutes can make the difference during an overdose. FOR Augusta works with the Georgia Overdose Prevention to put free Narcan in the hands of those who need it. So far in 2021, Narcan kits distributed by FOR Augusta have reversed 64 overdoses in our community.
SYRINGE EXCHANGE
Harm reduction adheres to non-judgmental treatment of drug users and moving forward in keeping with best practices for their healthy and safety, as well as the communities. FOR Augusta partners with Challenges Inc. and Access Point of GA to provide syringe exchange to mitigate health concerns associated with IV drug use.
PEER COACHING
One of the core principles in the way we approach Recovery is maintaining contact with those still engaging in active use so that we can be there to support them along their Recovery journey.
